The 2025 law cuts nearly $300 billion from SNAP — food stamps — the largest cut in the program's history. 42 million people use it, and it averages about $6 a person a day.
The cuts work through more paperwork and by pushing costs onto states, which respond by tightening benefits. Either way, the result is the same: less food money at the bottom.
For scale: the tax law this helps fund pays the richest tenth of households $13,600 a year.
